The way I use this in my classroom is simple.
I put the vocabulary cards up on the bulletin board
with my standards and other information on economics so that the students become familiar with them.
For the quiz cards I have the students line up facing me and I ask the first person in line the first question. I ask the questions loudly enough that everyone can hear. If they get the answer correct they go to the end of the line, if they get the answer incorrect they go sit down. If a student gets the wrong answer I tell the whole class the correct answer and move on to the next card for the next person in line. This continues until only 1 person is left standing. This person is deemed the Science King or Queen for the day. I use brag tags in my class so that is our reward for winning, but you could easily use a different small token. I have also made a crown out of construction paper in the past for the winner. By starting this on day 1 of your unit on matter and the water cycle and playing every day your students are very familiar with the vocabulary by the end of the unit and are having fun while learning! The quiz game takes less than 10 minutes and can be done in some of those weird spaces of time in the day instead of taking up social studies time.
