This static friction experiment allows students to investigate friction and the forces needed to make objects move.
Materials required for this experiment include a variety of shoes (with different sole grips, rubber bands, rulers, ramps / flat boards, access to a variety of surface types (e.g. grass, asphalt, concrete, ice, etc.) and weights (to make the shoes heavier).
Students are expected to use this worksheet to work through the scientific investigation model of posing a problem to be solved, determining a hypothesis, identifying the variables in the experiment, recording data and drawing conclusions.
