Instead of doing the same old review for the chapter, make it group work. These science stations allows students to review all the topics in the chapter about matter and have fun doing it. You will need to set up 5 areas in your room that students will move to. It helps to clearly state where each group it (some students like to wander from station to station) It helps to have a timer up on the screen so that every group is switching at the same time. Make sure to set up clear expectations before they start (we will leave each station neat, keep it at a voice level 2, work quickly and work together...ect)
At each station you will have the directions (a page sheet explaining what they are to do) and the supplies needed.
Review Stations/Group work
-5 stations need to be set up around the room.
Station1: List physical and chemical properties for each item in the bin (teacher supplies objects)
Station 2: Label each picture as a : Element, Molecule, Compound, Mixture (pictures provided...it helps to laminate them)
Station 3: Measure the mass and volume of the object (provided by teacher) then calculate density
Station 4: Look at each picture and tell if it is a physical or chemical change (pictures included...it helps to laminate them)
Station 5: Answer 5 questions about mass, bonds, states of matter and mixtures
Station Response sheet
-This sheet is where students can record their answers as they move from station to station and it makes it easy for you to grade this.
