Statistics Integrated Review: Plots, Shapes of Distributions, and Statistics for Center and Spread
Use common data plots to determine shape of the data distribution, and choose appropriate statistics for center and spread. This product includes a one-page integrated review with a worksheet and answer key aligned with the common core. Students practice identifying the shape of a data distribution using common data plots (dot plot, histogram, and boxplot). Students also review how to choose appropriate statistics for center and spread based on the shape of the distribution and the presence of outliers. The worksheet can be used as an in-class handout or as homework. What makes it an "integrated" review? It integrates multiple statistics concepts at once!
This product includes:
1) Integrated review sheet in PDF
2) Worksheet in PDF
3) Answer key in PDF
1) Review how to identify the shape of a distribution of a count or measurement variable using common data plots (dot plot, histogram, boxplot).
2) Review how to choose the appropriate statistics for center and spread based on the shape of the distribution and presence of outliers.
Common Core Standards:
HSS.ID.A.1: Represent data with plots on the real number line (dot plots, histograms, box plots).
HSS.ID.A.2: Use statistics appropriate to the shape of the data distribution to compare center (median, mean) and spread (interquartile range, standard deviation) of two or more different datasets.
HSS.ID.A.3: Interpret differences in shape, center, and spread in the context of the data sets, accounting for possible effects of extreme data points (outliers).
