This is a nonsense chant we recite in music class along with a game. Children sit in a circle on the floor or in chairs. With younger children, I use lummi sticks (to tap the person's stick next to them), older children arrange their hands so their right hand is on top of the person's hand on their right, and their left hand is under the person's hand on their left in a circle.
Chant the words, slap hand or tap stick on every beat. Beats in the chant are labeled with purple dots. (Can be displayed with projector or on Smartboard).
The student who's hand/stick is clapped on "out!" is out. That student can go in the middle and play a small percussion instrument, clap, or beat lummi sticks together on the beat. For younger students, I like to have them be "out" for one round and then come back into the game. Older students like to turn the game into a competition with "out" students remaining out until one person wins.
