Product Description

For this activity, students will be doing a close reading of the Stele of Hammurabi. This is a great introduction to the importance of Hammurabi's Code and the impact of religion and laws in Mesopotamia.

Students start by analyzing the entire image, taking notes on what they see. Then, they focus on specific parts of the carving for their analysis. They examine the differences between the figures, and parts of the image such as the flames behind the seated figure and the object being passed between the two. The final activity has the students predicting what is happening in the scene.

Included in this product are multiple versions of the graphic organizer so the teacher may choose how to present it to the class, as well as a PowerPoint presentation that highlights the different parts of the image.
