Product Description
The Stellaluna activities in this compete character and book study will help you turn your readers into comprehenders! Filled with 2 weeks of reading and writing activities, lesson plans, and assessments it includes comprehension lessons, 5 literacy centers, class anchor charts with all of the parts, and a culminating writing project to ensure your students are writing about what they are reading. Students respond to each of the comprehension lessons in mini-books that culminate into a foldable Stellaluna booklet. The booklets are perfect for an autumn display or included in your study of nocturnal animals. I’ve even included 2 versions of bulletin board title lettering.

Based on the delightful book, Stellaluna, by Janell Cannon, the activities and included lessons focus on analyzing the main character, comparing the characters’ differing points of view, reading fluency, vocabulary, and deeper discussion and questioning of the story elements. As teachers, one of our main missions is to turn our readers into comprehenders. This book lends itself so well to that and is a teacher’s dream for teaching so many ELA standards.

Studies show us that students who write about what they read become better readers. We also want our students to talk about what they are reading. With this Stellaluna book study students discuss, summarize, and write about the text and characters creating the foldable booklet along the way. The whole group lessons and class anchor charts extend into the writing pieces. (*Note: By request, I have included the summarizing pages with the Australian spelling-‘summarise’, not shown in the preview.)
