Students will practice reading and creating stem-and-leaf plots with these four worksheets (two of each). Answer keys are included. Bonus activity also on answer key page.
In the last creating worksheet, your class will divide into pairs. Each pair will time how many seconds their partner can hold their breath. The students share their data with the class. Based on the class data, students create a stem-and-leaf plot and answer questions based on it.
**There is a bonus activity description on the bottom of the answer key. Three worksheets are provided to complete it (stems, leaves, and flowers).
Students will make a flower picture from three stems, three flowers, and twelve leaves (four on each stem). Students will label each stem with a tens digit number and each leaf with a ones digit number. (Ex: stem---8; leaves---0, 1, 4, 9) Students cut out and glue the stem and leaves together to form a flower. Color and cut out the flower topper to go on the top.
This reviews the terminology used as well as the place value. When students have created their three flowers, they turn the construction paper over and create a stem-and-leaf plot based on their data in the picture.
