### Description

This concept is a tricky one but can be explained easily with this guide. Included in this unit is an explanation page for teachers, guided and independent practice activities for students based on topics students are familiar with. Students will grasp that Stem and Leaf Plots are made up of data values split into a leaf (the last digit) and a stem (the remaining digits). These include: transportation to school, ice cream, bowling and manipulatives students are familiar with. Each activity builds on the previous one with a double stem and leaf plot as the final task. A culmination of the unit is a "Stem and Leaf Power Play" game that will reinforce all concepts students have learned. This game is an excellent activity for a math station or even a home school connection.
