In this lesson (link to editable Google Doc included) students in upper level Spanish classes review or learn the stem-changing verbs in the preterite. The lesson centers on Diego Luna's 2016 commercial "Tu mamá miente" (beautiful but emotional commercial, and students should be warned ahead of time) as a natural entry point to use the verbs in context. There is a six page worksheet in total (three pages back and front), with two pages focused on the commercial (incuding a Clozeline), two pages focused on the verbs mentir, sentir, preferir, sugerir, convertir, and divertirse, and two pages focused on morir/dormir and pedir, servir, freír, medir, repetir, seguir, and rendirse. Lots of personal questions for practice so students can interact with one another, clear notes, and an unforgettable commercial to ground it all! (Students might also be interested that FUD, which paid for the commercial, is a meat company. A counter ad, "FUD miente," was also made). Google Doc includes link to this as well as to an interview with Diego Luna in which he talks about losing his mom at a young age. (Lesson originally created to accompany ¡Así se dice!
