Step by step math is a measurement activity that has your students measure the distance from their seat or desk to other locations in the classroom. Students record and compare the number of steps they take in two different ways, toe to heel measures and giant steps. Then they have to compare the number of steps between two measurements they recorded and determine the differences using models to prove their thinking. Nonstandard measurement is a skill our little ones need to practice. This activity is aligned with the CCSS.
