PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Got help? Great! Getting the targeted help you need? PRICELESS! This packet includes step-by-step, 1 page guides for meeting with small groups for reading practice and comprehension. The guides work with any narrative or informative texts you’d give your kindergarten or first grade students. There’s even a guide for a one-to-one book conversation! Additionally, since this packet is for kindergarten and first grade, I included four guides for working on targeted phonemic awareness skills! There are 10 guides in all—each grounded in research-based practices.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: I just BUNDLED the K-1 Reading Guides with the K-1 Writing guides at a significant discount (only $6 for both). If you'd like to check that out click here:
BUNDLE Step-by-Step Reading and Writing Guides K-1

The guides are written to be used by parent volunteers, tutors, aides or other paraprofessionals. I've left out educational jargon (or explained any that appears) to keep the guides user-friendly. This packet will be a treasured resource and huge time saver for you!

This packet includes:
*Management slips to make managing students easy for helpers
*A step-by-step guide for meeting with an individual reader to have a book conversation (with any book the child is reading)
*Several guides for small group reading and comprehending of narrative and informational texts (Some for choral reading, some with instructions for having students read the text at their own pace in whisper voices. NO ROUND-ROBIN READING HERE!)
*A guide for more advanced work: small group reading of chapter books (for those way-above level K-1 readers)
*Guides for Phonemic Awareness work: one-on-one or in small groups (Segmenting beginning, ending, and medial sounds plus segmenting and blending words with three and four sounds using sound boxes)
*Sound box templates
*Letter to families asking for appropriate pictures to use with the phonemic awareness guides

Everything is clearly explained! All you need are helpers, readers, and reading materials!

The guides are aligned to Common Core State Standards, too!

Teachers have requested I put this project together for years! I'm happy to offer it here. Enjoy! -Janiel
