Product Description
Everyone knows that dividing can be a struggle because it is a multiple step process and can be challenging especially when your students have not mastered multiplication facts. This set is designed to take some of the frustration out of division so students can understand the basic concepts step by step.

There are 11 pages included in this packet. Each page consists of nine problems with the same divisor. At the top of the page, the students are asked to write the multiplication fact that corresponds with the divisor they are working on. This packet also includes an answer sheet and multiplication table. For students who catch on quickly, or if extra work is desired, a “skeleton” sheet is provided where the teacher (or students) can write in their own numbers for the division problems.

One of the challenges in dividing is keeping numbers aligned in correct rows. Each problem has a grid to help alleviate the confusion of keeping numbers straight. Teachers can further help students by color coding rows, allowing students to use the provided multiplication table or providing acronyms such as:

D -Dad Divide ÷
M -Mom Multiply ×
S - Sister Subtract −
B -Brother Bring Down 

I have used this system with both general education and special education students. The provided supports and scaffolds help students navigate through the multiple step process of division. In this method, the concepts of division become a primary focus. One number per box is provided to help with alignment and keeping problems neat. Multiplication facts are at the top to keep students focused and moving throughout the entire problem. The same number divisor is used to reduce confusion and provides an added a bonus of reinforcing memorization of multiplication facts.
