Step-by-Step Literary Analysis | Digital Learning Approved

-
Google Slides™

Description
In this MINIMAL Prep lesson:
- Students will be asked to analyze a famous advertisement poster (Uncle Sam).
- It will be a step-by-step guided lesson through parts of an analysis
- Students will then be assigned a portion of a text of your choosing (I used this with a part of Chapter 6 Lord of the Flies)
- Again, students will be walked through analysis step-by-step (choosing elements, analyzing how those elements affect readers, and connecting those elements as proof of their arguments)
- Students are then asked to draft an essay using all of the information they just did (which is simply taking what they wrote and turning it into essay format)
- Students will then work in pairs in a workshop model to check each other's work for completeness and to determine how well the evidence fits the argument.
*An example is provided to students on some of the slides to help them brainstorm and understand what is being asked.
