Practicing writing paragraphs and helping students break down paragraph writing into more visual, manageable steps.
One of the main reasons I like to cut each detail, elaboration, the introduction and conclusion out separately is that I like students to have a visual representation of new ideas and possible details or elaborations.
Another reason is that I want them to recognize that writing is a fluid process and sometimes you change the order of your ideas to help create a better flow. We do this often on a computer but it’s much more difficult to do in handwritten essays.
