This handout addresses Stephan Douglass and the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
It discusses how the Kansas and Nebraska territories were supposed to be free states but Stephan Douglass wanted people to vote for or against slavery in these new states.
The worksheets we would read aloud to the kids individually. I would put two dots on either side of where I wanted them to highlight, and they would highlight between the two dots. Then we would read the questions allowed to the student and they would point to or circle their answer.
We would often reread the information as class warm ups, print out extra copies and cut out the pictures of the people, laminate them and play matching games matching the pictures to the names of the people. You can also enlarge the information, put it in sheet protectors, and have the students trace the information with wipe off markers if they are unable to write independently.
It ends with 3 comprehension questions that can be used as evidence for the middle school VAAP standard,
