Are you looking for a February writing and craftivity set
with the power to transport your students back in time? Do you need interesting writing prompts
to get your kids ready for testing BUT also want it to be fun? This set is a complete writing and craft set that will meet all these needs, and more!
This prompt has students traveling back in time as they imagine what it would be like to meet a specific person, attend an event, or visit a place that's important in U.S. history. They'll research the person, place, or event, and communicate why this is special to our country's history.
Included are these important parts for the writing:
➨ How-to-use pages
➨ Writing prompt page with clear explanation and directions
➨ Graphic organizer to help students organize their thoughts for the prewriting
➨ Presentation paper that's cute for students' final copy
➨ Scoring Rubric (full-page or half-page option)
The only other thing you need is lined paper - that's it!
We suggest students skip lines to allow a bit of room for revising.
How does this work?
This writing and craft set come with quite a few options so you can tweak this to work for your class:
➨ You can do this as a week-long writing project in class, or you can start in class and send it home for homework.
➨ You can differentiate the project to match your students' needs. Scaffold more support if it's needed, or walk them through the prompt and step back and watch them go! You know your students, so you decide how much support is required. Differentiate as needed to make sure every student is comfortable and confident when writing.
➨ You can also alter the project to match the level of involvement you want from parents.
• Work on drafting at school, then revise together, and let the kids do the final copy for homework.
• Alternatively, if your parent support is very strong, do the prewriting only at school and have parents revise with students at home after they complete their draft.
• If you want to help with the drafting, complete the prewriting and drafting at school, but ask parents to help with the revising and editing.
You really can taylor this to match your own classroom
situation! All you need to do is print out the prompt, graphic organizer, and rubric for the students. Read and discuss the prompt, and let your students' creativity flow out onto their graphic organizer as they plan their writing!
The craftivity includes everything you need to create a fun trifold brochure to share what they've learned about their historical place, event, or person. Just print and you are ready!
➨ Explanation and description
➨ Printable that would be great for a bulletin board
You will need scissors, glue, construction paper, and copies of the resource. That's it!
Your kids will love this - and they won't even realize they're learning!
