Get your students to move beyond the images and the words on the page and actually analyze! I use this with a free art template called a CUBING TEMPLATE, you can do a quick google search and find it. Then I go through the steps to do a graphic analysis as a final project when we're finished reading Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis. By modeling the thought process with an example paragraph, it really helps the students understand how to analyze and then how to write about it. You can also do this as an assignment throughout the book for practice with analysis. This could easily be adapted for any visual analysis.
