My students keep an Interactive Student Notebook (ISN), and I have them keep this handout in their ISN. Students are able to go back and reference this page whenever we are working writing. I have formatted the document, so that I could affix two to a page which saves on paper and makes it the perfect size for putting in the students' composition notebook/ ISN.
I have used this handout in multiple ways.
1. Independent Work - After students write their rough draft, I will have them go through these steps to edit and revise their essay independently.
2. Partner Work - After students write their rough draft, they trade papers with a partner, and they then go through the steps to edit and revise their partner's essay
3. Group Work - After students write their rough draft, while in groups of 4-5, students will pass their paper clockwise, and everyone will complete the 5 steps while rotating essays for each step. By doing this activity each essay has had 4-5 different pair of eyes help improve the essay for final draft. If you have groups of 4, I just combine steps 1&2.
