Many students arrive at the first day of college English without a good sense of how to approach an academic paper. Either they forget what they have learned or have yet to be taught how to think about the writing process strategically.
This document outlines and explains a basic five-step strategy for academic writing. (Not intended to be a universal strategy, but rather a single example of a focused way to approach academic writing.)
Brief explanations of each step are offered along with tips on how to use this simple strategy to generate papers that incorporate research into focused and organized paragraphs.
A short, multiple-choice quiz (with key) is also included for use as (1) a review tool, (2) a reading check and (3) an easy way to utilize this material as a classroom activity.
