Address stereotypes and prejudice in the classroom with this print-and-go fun activity! This is a perfect lead-in to any novel study addressing issues like gender, race, culture, cliques, or bullying.
I like to use this before To Kill A Mockingbird, but it would be a great addition to a unit on The Hate U Give, 13 Reasons Why, The Outsiders, The Scarlet Letter, The House on Mango Street, or any other novel addressing those difficult-to-teach topics.
Students circle images they most identify with and then consider what stereotypes are most commonly associated with those images. Students may answer discussion questions in pairs or groups, challenging those stereotypes and thinking more deeply about their impact.
Overall, this is a great and lighthearted way to transition into deeper discussions on what makes us different and how we can see things through others' perspectives!
