This is an activity to allow your students to explore how stereotypes surface.
The students will read four description of a person in order to match the description to a picture of a person.
A discussion will take place for the students to understand that the descriptions cannot be matched to a particular person because the description can be related to both a "girl" and "boy". I often stress that it is impossible to match a person to a description because any person can be matched to a description. In addition, we discuss not all "girls" like and do the same thing along with not all "boys" like and do the same thing.
The students will be asked to answer a set of questions to reflect on how stereotypes affect people and how influence may blur your judgment.
-explain the process your group followed to match a person to a description. (2 points)
-who or what influenced your decision? (2 points)
-was it easy for you to match a picture to a description? Explain. (1 point)
-should you make a judgment about a someone because of the way they look or because of another person't opinion? (2 points)
