Product Description
As my students read, I want them to be thinking. Thinking about what they are reading, thinking about characters, thinking about connections, thinking about what may come next. The reality is that some times they read the words – but do not actually read the story. Does this happen to your students? To help with this, I created this resource. It helps my students to remember to think about what they are reading and work on important reading skills while doing so!

You can use this resource in a huge variety of ways.

Small Group Work

Print off one of the choices and give the sticky notes to students. Have them place the sticky notes at appropriate places throughout the book. Discuss as a group when everyone is finished.
Place sticky notes in books the students are going to read. As they find the sticky notes, have them either tell your verbally or write down why they think you placed the sticky note there.

Whole Group Work

Choose which skills you want to work on and have those sticky notes up for the class to see. As you read the book, have your students stop you and tell you where they think the notes should go and why.
Have notes hidden within your read aloud. When students see a note, they can explain to you why it is there.

Individual Work

Choose a sheet with the same sticky note in all six spots. For example – Connection. Print off enough sticky notes for all students and give to them. Have them find a connection in the book while individually reading.
Give students a variety of sticky notes on a sheet. Have them place throughout their books while reading. They can explain why they put their sticky notes different places to a partner. Or, they can explain in writing.
