Looking for rigorous partner math tasks that will get your students talking and writing about math? Look no further!
This is a set of math tasks perfect for partners- one for each third grade standard!
Teacher prep is a breeze!
Choose one of the Sticky Note Sidekick pages, according to the standard you’re working on. Standards are listed at the top of each page.
Print off the correct number of copies. Get enough sticky notes for each child as well!
Determine sidekick partners- groups of two.
That’s it! Your activity is ready to go!
Read the problem aloud. Give each student a sticky note. Students will draw, write, or use equations to solve. Encourage a variety of solutions. Students may use the back of the sticky note or a second one as needed.
Students will now share their sticky notes with their sidekick (partner). Students will discuss similarities and differences. Encourage productive math talk!
Students will place their post it notes on the record sheet in the appropriate squares. Next, they’ll combine the information on each sticky note to create a superb collaborative solution!
Bring the class back together whole group. Call on a few sidekick pairs to share their collaborative solutions. Choose pairs that have used drawings, words, and equations if possible.
** If you plan to use this as a formative assessment, students may put their name on the back of the sticky note.
Please note that you'll need some sticky notes or square pieces of paper to complete these activities. Since this is a digital product, sticky notes aren't included. :)
