Students will utilize analysis, note taking, math, graphing, and critical thinking skills during the two day lesson.
The first day of the lesson is a stock market game to give the students a fundamental understanding of why people invest, what shares are, and how the market can go up and down. Each student is given a set amount of money to invest as they would like in three different companies. The presentation takes you through a year of ups and downs involving these three stock, and the students keep track of how much they have made or lost in the market based upon how they invest their money.
The second day teaches the students how the US went from the roaring 20s into the Great Depression after the 1929 market crash. There is a focus on the "economic death spiral," and the way that, as people lose money and jobs, they have less money to spend, which means less buying, and less jobs, etc...
