Stock Market Project ECONOMICS

"Good Project. Saved me some time."

Stock Market project as follow up to stock market simulation ECONOMICS

INTRO: I typically teach all about the market and spend a good week going over everything. I bring in day traders as guest speakers and really get them thinking about whether this is a viable way to make money or not.

Then we play the stock market game. I use Cal State Fullerton's version as it does cost a little money but is well worth it.

The students play in teams of 3-5 and meet once a week to make trades. The goal is to make money as quickly as possible in the 10 week time period. I have all sorts of other resources that I will be posting with this or you can buy the ECONOMICS BUNDLE and you will get everything immediately

This is a great project that has students do a number of different things with their stocks and investing their money.

I break this project down into 3 steps that the students can complete in about 3 weeks.

This project can be done individually or in a group. Recently I have been having my students do it in their stock groups. It cuts down on the grading and I am not sure if they learn any less, so I will continue to do it as a group.

The first step is the students get to analyze their stocks that they bought over the last 10 weeks. They must do a number of different things with each stock in order to complete the task for STEP 1. I tell the students that however many student there are in the group, that is how many stocks must be researched for this step. I have included a sample of what this step looks like in the project.

The second step is a series of portfolio questions that they will all answer together as a group. There are 9 questions in total and will allow the students to reflect on the last 10 weeks.

The third step is all about individual research regarding what they would actually do if they inherited a bunch of money(100k). They also must interview others about what they would do if they were given a certain amount of money. This is my favorite part of the project as it gets them to think about a real world situation.

The last thing I have included is a rubric for the project. It is simple and to the point, but gets the job done.

I do have the groups turn in their projects together so they are quiet large by the time that I get them.
