Note: Use this before doing the Stock Market Simulation I have on TPT.
In this assignment, students are tasked with researching companies and finding out information about them that will influence their later buying decisions in the Stock Market Portfolio Simulation Unit.
This allows you to introduce concepts such as P/E Ratios and Dividend Yield, to get them thinking about the value of a company and about what types of investments to look for. I like to encourage them to diversify across sectors and to seek growth investments (like stocks on the NASDAQ--especially Biotech) but to also look for companies that pay dividends (like Coca-Cola).
This is a good introduction for many of them that know nothing about stocks. They will be overwhelmed, which is why I have more in the Stock Portfolio Simulation also on TPT. By the end of this unit, my students talk about balance sheet information ON THEIR OWN :)
