PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Looking for a great activity to kick off the move towards the Common Core standards for Social Studies? This activity is taken from a secondary source and radio program on NPR. The story of Stokley Carmichael is unique and important within the Civil Rights Movement in general, and the Black Power Movement in particular. This audio reading tells of the life of the man and the legacy he left behind.

After students listen to the story (link to the audio reading of the story is provided) while following along with the text, students are then asked to complete a character map of Stokley Carmichael using specific evidence and quotes from the text (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.9-10.2). I have provided a blank graphic organizer that can be easily reproduced.

This activity is aligned to the Common Core Standards!! Ready to print and ready to use!
