Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner is one of the best easy-to-read pieces of literature available! Just be sure to read the whole book by yourself before you read it with the class, or you will be crying at the end in front of your students!
I have designed this unit for struggling readers and writers of all levels. My class is a 4-6th grade resource class composed of bright children with a variety of learning challenges including learning disabilities, autism, emotional disturbance, and English Language Learners. This unit is also perfect for intervention groups in an RtI model. My goals with these students are:
1. Allow all types of learners to access the Common Core.
2. Provide the opportunity to experience and dig into fine and long-lasting literature at their grade level.
3. Let students create, engage in, and take pride in their own written summary and illustrated interactive journal of a favorite text.
4. Read, write, draw, and have fun!
