The handout gives students information on how to write a timed personal response to a chapter or chapters of Stones. It includes sentence stems for students who need some prompting, as well as a thorough example of a student's response for chapters 1-5.
While I generally have my students write for ten minutes, there is no time specified on the handout, and so it is up to teachers' discretion. Also, I typically will do this activity three or four times throughout the novel study.
I also have a variety of other activities for Stones, including a unit test, individual project, essay, and complete unit plan: see my store for more information.
