Stop Cards allow you to redirect behavior with a visual cue in a quick and quiet manner. Laminate a few to keep on your desk, or in your pocket and you will have a handy tool that can be used without disrupting your lesson. Simply place it in front of the student(s) and keep your momentum going. It can also give you that much needed moment to think through what the consequence will be if the behavior continues!
For best results, print the cards front to back so that each card has a YELLOW and RED side. Cut out and laminate for cards that last all year!
Introduce these Stop Cards during the first weeks of school. Let the students know that a face-up YELLOW STOP is a warning. The text on the YELLOW STOP advises an individual student or a group to refocus on the assignment and to change their behavior. If a YELLOW STOP does not result in the appropriate change of behavior, simply flip the card to a RED STOP. The text advises the student(s) that a consequence will follow.
Contact me if you would like to have a specific consequence listed on the Red Card.
