In my effort to simplify bathroom procedures, while still holding kids accountable for what they leave behind, I use a small pocket chart on my bathroom door. In each pocket are the names of my students. I have this sign glued to a popsicle stick. When a student needs the restroom, s/he puts this stick in his/her pocket so we know who’s in the bathroom. When they leave, they take the stick out of their pocket, and sign their name on a plastic plate hung by the door. The next person who goes in will know who was there last (in case there’s debate over who needs to clean up). I also have a “bathroom monitor” job so one child is in charge of checking on the state of affairs throughout the day and going back to the last person who visited to take care of it.
I’ve included multiple copies, just in case you have several bathrooms or in case you want to have a few back-ups made if yours gets lost or damaged.
