Moving pictures are created from images that change ever-so-slightly between frames, creating the illusion of motion. Early animators and movie makers used various methods to speed the frames past the eye. Phenakistoscopes are early models of animating images that can be used to teach the frame-by-frame concept in filmmaking.
This module includes an Instructor's Guide to leading a class in Phenakistoscope creation as well as a printable template to use for the activity. The instruction includes Learning Objectives, Materials, and Vocabulary Terms and is broken down into lecture Topics and hands-on Activities.
