These classroom mascots give children the opportunity to say all of the whining and tattling that they need to without stopping class or interrupting the teacher.
Simply tell your students that in our class whining is something that we tell to Whiny Kitty and tattling is something that Tattle Dog listens to. If they start to whine, stop them and remind them that is something for Whiny Kitty. Our experience is that kids just need a forum for expressing their frustration. For more information on how our school implemented this and the story we made up for the kids, go to EAL at home and school
Note: the product is made on European A4 sized paper. If you are printing in a standard US size, choose "shrink to fit" in your printing options. (A4 is very close to letter but the very bottom bit will not print if you don't choose "shrink to fit")
Also included are scenarios to help kids distinguish between whining, tattling, and the important things that should be told to an adult.

This idea came from a veteran teacher who used it for years before retiring with early-onset Alzheimers. This freebie is in loving and respectful honor of Mona Veatch who both created this idea and loved teaching. I'm sure it will work as well in your classroom as it has in ours.
