So how do these stop and jot thinkmarks work? As they read, students will be monitoring their own reading. They will learn to respond to the reading using thinkmarks! The image on the left is a small, easy to draw image that will help them associate their reading over time with a certain skill. It also slows them down, to asses what questions they really have about the reading. The questions on the right are prompts to guide your students to think about their responses alongside the standards. This enables them to have a deeper, richer response while also allowing you to assess their needs and give them weekly practice in using the tools in the standards in a practical way!
In my own class, students respond to these on an "exit ticket" sticky note and on Friday we do a longer reading response letter where they go deeper with one of their thinkmarks of the week! I want my students to spend most of their time reading!
You can also use these to have students take notes while reading, and then have them do longer writes later off of the think marks as their reading response each day.
There are two sets of bookmarks in this set.
**The first set of bookmarks was created to have students respond on a sticky note as they read. Students are given an example of how to fill out the Thinkmarks on the bookmark to reduce confusion on expectations.
**The second set of bookmarks does not have the sticky note example or directions. This allows for you to have some flexibility in your classroom in how you would like to use these!
