A promise is a big deal to a child. They take them very seriously.
With that in mind, I designed this fire safety “Stop and Think” craftivity
It’s just my small way of reinforcing fire safety, and possibly making a child think twice, before making a tragic choice someday.
I’ve had several of my Y5 students involved in trailer fires, one in which my kiddo was the one who actually called 911, so don’t think this tragedy won’t happen to your students.
Prepare them like it will. You might possibly save a life.
This simple “Stop and Think!” craftivity, is a quick, easy & fun
way to help students make a commitment to not playing with fire.
Signing their name to the pledge seals the deal.
A painted hand print on the front, makes this extra special, and represents their promise.
I have my students raise their hand to show “Stop!” then raise it higher to make a promise, pledging not to play with fire; afterwards, they give a few high fives to classmates.
I’ve included a “We Promise” poster
, as well as a sheet of “I promised!” slap bracelets
to further reinforce the lesson, plus a photo poster
of a stop sign, to launch your discussion. (Questions included.)
Remember to take a teachable moment to review the octagon shape
I’m Diane from Teach With Me, hoping that your students enjoy doing this craft, as they take their promise seriously.
