Classroom Mall: Each student designs his or her won shop windows and front door, complete with a large sign board over the store to write in the store's name. Our class came up with Katherine's Perfect Women's Shop , Liam's Piping Hot Pizza Shop, and Seamus's Ice Cream Shop, with the ad in the window, " We have all flavors. Every single kind" written by a kindergartner.
Then the class K - 2nd grades hung their shops on the bulletin board in three rows with hallways in between rows of shops.
Great in conjunction with money lessons, creative writing, art and more! Students added shelves of products to their pet shops and robotics stores.
Great for math word problems! Our teacher, Mrs. Rose wrote word problems based on the Mall stores and the owners. For instance, " Liam found a robot in Riley's Robotic Legos store for 87 cents. He also found the same robot in Brennan's Robot Shop for 45 cents. How much more did the robot cost in Riley's store than in Brennan's shop?"
Creative writing: Have students write about which stores they would shop at, and which items they would like to buy.
Graphing charts: Create charts to list how many shops sell food, pets, clothing, toys, etc.
What ideas will your class come up with?
