The compelling epic Beowulf is a story that children of all ages love! We use this packet in October because it has the "scariness" of monsters without getting into witches and zombies! Students love it because there are monsters, battles, swords and a brave hero who has big decisions to make. He is courageous, but we see that he has some fears as well.
This comprehension packet is perfect to use with students in grades 2-6 in guided reading groups, book clubs, or in a whole group setting.
For each chapter, there are comprehension questions and activities. Skills include:
* vocabulary work
* word analysis
* dictionary skills
* character analysis
* comparison and contrast
* reading for detail and illustrating accordingly
* stating opinions with support
Graphic organizers help students record and organize their thoughts as they respond to questions.
Materials include complete packet for students to use as they respond to the literature, as well as a teacher answer key.
There is sufficient space for students to write their answers using complete sentences. (My students get frustrated when packets I have purchased do not have enough space!)
This makes a great companion piece to our Wishbone's Be A Wolf comprehension packet! You could have 2 groups of students studying the same story with a slightly different slant.
