This activity choice board contains activities that are aligned with the autobiography "Storm" by Gary Paulson. In specific, the version of the autobiography that can be found in the "Elements of Literature" Textbook (Publisher - Holt). The students use this choice board to guide their instruction and activities as they read. There are 4 columns on this choice board. To begin, the students must complete all of the activities in the Must Do Column. After completing all of those, the students will then choose an activity from the Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Extension Activities.
The use of an activity board such as this allows students to work to meet the same goals through various means. Research shows that students learn best when they are engaged. Through providing a variety of activities for students complete, the students can complete an assignment they are interested in, and therefore are more likely to be engaged and succeed.
The vocabulary activities are also leveled based on difficulty. The easiest is a triangle, the middle is a square, and the most difficult is a star.
The extension activities also allow for internet exploration.
