After I have my kids read a story that I want them to get a lot out of, we did this book over it to make sure they understood all the concepts in the book. I cut the pages in half and then we staple it like a book. I had them do this once in the beginning and we did our notes on it. Then we did one over the story. That way they could reference back to their one with the notes on it. The students did this for a test grade to show their true understanding of the story we read. It can work as both an independent activity or as a partner or small group activity as well. They really enjoyed getting to be hands on and create something. I also used their book of notes as a review for STAAR.
