I have decided to use this as a way for students to respond to the books they are reading. This year, the school where I teach decided not to continue the Accelerated Reader Program. There won't be a computer score to check comprehension on the books they read like in past years, but the mini book reports will be a way to check for understanding the skills taught. I plan to use these mini book reports as book summaries and also reinforcing common core skills. The book reports vary from generic formats where students simply write about and illustrate their favorite parts to more specific formats with story elements. Changing the format can be due to skill focus or to keep something new for the kids to do.
