Monitoring Comprehension is an important skill that takes time and practice to develop. Many students are great at reading the words but don't stop to think about what they are reading. The International Dyslexia Association suggests that one way to practice and assess comprehension is to have students read a passage and determine if two sentences contradict each other.

This packet contains 10 short stories that have 2 lines that contradict. The students must read the stories and then identify the 2 lines that are contradicting. There is the "challenge" to explain why they contradict to help challenge your students who may be excelling with this.

The stories are written in simple language to help devote more cognitive energy to analyzing the story rather than reading the words.
