This project addresses the Common Core standards for 7th grade Language Arts. While I created it for my gifted students, I provide an accommodation sheet with examples of how to differentiate it for multiple levels of learners. The accommodation sheet also provides opportunities for extra enrichment.
The project is set up in a fun, engaging way by describing a scene where great literary minds are fighting about which story element is the most important to writing. The goal of the student is to create a well-supported claim arguing for one specific story element.
The students must read two short stories of their choice. After identify the six story elements in each, the must choose which story element is the most important to story-writing. They create an argument complete with three supporting reasons, which they present to the class in a style of their choice.
This package includes:
-Overview of project to pass out to students
-Assessment rubric complete with common core standards
-Accommodation sheet for ideas on differentiating/enriching
-Three optional graphic organizers to accommodate multiple learners
-All documents in Word files for easy changes
