PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

After students CLOSE READ a text, they should WRITE about it! And if students write about it, teachers should have a tool to ASSESS their comprehension of the text (close reading ability) and their written responses to the text!

WOW!! Not a problem for us teachers, aka superheroes!

“Summative Assessments for Fiction - Story Elements; The PQA Quiz ~ K - 2” was designed to help you with all THAT ~ quickly and easily!

The 13 DIFFERENTIATED PQA Quizzes in this document will work with your favorite (or district mandated) fictional stories. I have been using them for TWELVE years! They are also an important part of my sub plan folder!

INCLUDED in this document:

13 pages of differentiated reading quizzes (based on story elements; good for grades K - 2 regular and special education students
1 “poster” page ~ email this to Staples and let them print it as a poster and laminate it for you!

3 pages of examples and multiple pages of directions.

PQA! I created the acronym PQA to improve students’ understanding of how to begin a written response using part of the question in the answer. Using PQA is excellent basic training for elementary writers and helps students stay focused on the topic while writing in all content areas.

Here’s the process…

1. Kids close read.

2. Kids take close reading notes (Check out my store for help with close reading notes!)
Close Reading; Fun for Kids, Easy for Teachers

3. Kids take a comprehension assessment (PQA QUIZ) that is designed for their “level.”

4. Teacher assesses students using PQA quizzes and uses results to drive instruction!

So what’s PQA?? You could say to your students, “Boys and girls, make sure you restate the question in your answer.” OR you could say, “Boys and girls, use PQA!” Sooo much easier!!

Many teachers in New York State have also been using these DIFFERENTIATED quizzes for years. I know your students will find success with them, and you will find them to be a valuable assessment tool for your students.

For a fun, interactive story map that goes perfectly with these quizzes, check out “Close Reading, Fun for Kids and Easy” for Teachers available in my store!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.

The PQA Quizzes are part of a book I wrote called “ELA Instruction Made SIMPLE; SIMPLE Steps to Reading and Writing Success” which is copyrighted by the Library of Congress. Please respect my copyright. Thanks!
