For this project, students will examine story elements (such as protagonist, antagonist, theme, plot, etc.) and develop a comic strip. Included is a directions page, with listed themes, a student planning worksheet with sample plot, and a grading rubric. My students really enjoy this project. It's a great way to get them into the vocabulary that is necessary for middle school students to grasp (terms like protagonist). I usually start off with a Scooby Doo episode, use page 2 of this project, then have them examine comic strips, use page 2 again--planning, and then create the comic strip. The rubric is simple to use and makes grading a snap--especially if you look over their planning sheets first.
