I've created a Story Map, or Plot Diagram, which allows students to visualize how plot develops. Starting at the bottom left with the exposition, moving towards the inciting force, then up with the rising action, choosing the most important events that advance the plot, to the climax, to falling action, and then to the resolution. This map is part of a larger literary analysis/book report I have my students complete each quarter. I also use this when teaching my short story or narrative unit. I have used this in grades 9-12, but it could be easily used in middle school as well. Check back frequently to see how I utilize this map in a variety of ways!
