I created or modified this set of 12 story maps over the last 15 years. They range from very primary designs to some that are meant for much more advanced readers. I blew some of them up into chart form so that I could use them in shared reading settings. I modeled their use on the overhead and made them part of my guided reading lessons. Each of them emphasizes the basic story elements of character, setting, problem, and solution. As the maps become more sophisticated, the concept of unfolding events and how the story ends are added. I have also included a two page mystery map which allows the reader to list villains and sidekicks, look for clues, and discover unexpected twists. These maps are meant to be visually interesting and easy to follow. Enjoy!
