Have you ever wanted to have your students detail the important events in a story at their own level? Well, look no further! These story maps are differentiated by process. The leading questions / commands start off differently for each, but they end in the same result: detailed descriptions of the stories read. The star represents your ELL learners (the sentence structure and vocabulary is simple so that they can comprehend what is asked of them). The circle represents your Special Ed. / low-achieving learners (the sentence structure and vocabulary gives students hints in parentheses so that they have assistance in guided practice of the terms). The square represents your average-achieving learners (the sentence structure and vocabulary are basic with slight hints). Finally, the triangles represent your gifted / high-achieving learners (the sentence structure and vocabulary are complex which encourage them to elaborate their thoughts in a more in-depth way). You can use this with any story or novel which increases its usefulness in your classroom from year to year.
