Students and teachers can utilize this reading guide with almost any novel. Students can record information about setting, characters, genre, points of view, conflict, plot, theme, and author's purpose. Students complete the back portion by finding examples of figurative language and literary elements from their story. If these elements are missing from their independent reading, students can provide a definition to demonstrate their knowledge. One short answer question asks students to think about text structure. The other short answer question asks students if they would or would not recommend this story to others and asks them to justify their response.
