Product Description
Common Core Standards require students to know how to solve many different types of word problems. This 15 page set is aligned with Common Core State Standards to teach Compare - Difference Unknown: How many more? Numbers to 20 . In my experience, students learn how to better solve each story problem type when first taught in isolation. Later, students will know when and how to solve each addition and subtraction situation.

In compare - difference unknown story problems, students compare how many more by using subtraction or missing addend.

Example: Jill has 13 lemons. Sam has 7 lemons. How many more lemons does Jill have than Sam?

Students will find how many more lemons Jill has than Sam.

13 - 7 = 5 OR 7 + ____ = 13

Students will solve by drawing a picture, using a number line, shading blocks to compare amount (best visual for students), writing an equation, and filling in the answer in sentence form.
